Carry On Essentials For Your Next Flight

Carry On Essentials For Your Next Flight

No matter where you’re flying for your next trip, it’s important that you know which carry-on essentials you really should bring along. These are items you’ll want to have on hand even if you’re checking some bags as luggage during your next flight.

With so many people getting back out there to travel, I wanted to share some of my must-have carry-on essentials. Traveling is a fabulous way to experience new places, see extended family members, hang out with friends you haven’t seen in a while, and it’s even a great chance to meet new friends on the way!

It’s even better when you’re fully prepared to make sure the journey is just as great as the destination!

My Carry On Essentials

The Right Bag

First, you’ll need to have the best carry-on bag option possible. I recommend getting a backpack so that you don’t need to hold it the entire time. The right bag will include various pockets inside to keep your carry-on essentials organized. Make sure there are also pockets that are easy to reach, which you can use to place things you’ll constantly need to get ahold of (i.e. your passport if traveling internationally, your ticket, phone, etc).

However, if you’re more of a tote bag person, this LL Bean Boat and Tote Bag is a perfect size. I just used it on a JetBlue flight and it was awesome! We couldn’t bring an actual carry-on suitcase, so I had to improvise a little bit! Regardless of what you use it for, the boat and tote bag is a useful bag to have!

Socks and Sweater

Don’t forget about the changes in temperatures as you navigate different airport terminals. Make sure you have an extra pair of socks and a sweater to put on in case you get cold. The last thing you want to do is feel uncomfortably cold while traveling far away from home.

Passport Holder

This is especially useful if you need a passport to travel to your final destination. A passport holder will ensure you keep your identification paperwork in one spot. The holder will allow you to easily grab the identification you need when asked without having to fumble through your carry-on bag. They also have larger, more functional passport holders like this one that actually holds your boarding pass too!

carry on essentials

Medications

If you take any medications, then you’ll want to have your medications packed in your carry-on. This allows you to have access to them that you’ll need to take while on the flight if an unplanned layover occurs, or your checked luggage is lost. I absolutely love this 7-Day Pill Planner from Target.

Phone Charger

I can’t stress this enough! You will need some way to charge your phone if things go awry. You can pack a travel charger in your carry-on bag for quick access to charge your phone in case of emergencies.

Backup Toiletries

Don’t underestimate the power of needing that toothbrush, toilet paper, or face wash in your carry-on bag. Be sure to have some backup toiletries available, but make sure to measure them to hold only the appropriate amount allowed by the airline (3 oz or under). These Convenience Kits are so useful and worth the money!

In conclusion, traveling by plane can be a very fun experience as long as you’re prepared with the proper carry-on essentials. I hope that my list of travel essentials for your carry-on bag will help you be more prepared as you venture out into the world to travel more this year.

How to Declutter a Room in Just 10 Minutes a Day

How to Declutter a Room in Just 10 Minutes a Day

Every home you enter has a clutter problem, whether you can see it or not. Here are some tips on how to declutter a room in 10 minutes a day!

The homes that do not seem cluttered are where the occupants generally keep things from becoming messy or cluttered. You might feel like you don’t have time to do that. I totally get it. But, once you get started and take just 10 minutes a day to keep everything clean, you’ll start to notice a difference!

I like to do a deep clean in Spring and Fall to ensure my apartment is manageable through other seasons.

How to Declutter a Room in Just 10 Minutes a Day:

Pick One Room to Start Decluttering

Instead of viewing decluttering as a whole home project, break it up into smaller tasks and look at it as a room-by-room project. A smaller, broken-down project is far easier to manage, so I suggest starting small. Start with your home’s common living areas since seeing them clean and decluttered will give you the morale boost you’ll need for other locations.

Find Your Worst Spots

Take a quick walk through your home right now and find your clutter magnets that seem to be the places where things gather the most. These are the areas you should work on decluttering first since an overly-filled, cluttered area will often spill into the rest of your home. Most homes will have at least two of these spots.

Choose the Worst Offender

Start with that one spot in your home that seems to be the biggest clutter-prone area. The easiest course of action here is to start with the worst and move to the lesser cluttered areas. By starting with the worst of the worst, you’re helping to keep the spillover I mentioned from happening.

Set a Timer to Declutter a Room

One reason decluttering a room in just ten minutes a day seems to be so hard is that often we will go in, start working and lose track of time. Several hours later, we emerge only to find we’ve lost half the day and are now running behind on the other things we needed to get done. By keeping your work sections to just ten minutes each, you teach yourself to focus only on what absolutely needs to be done.

Go Easy on Yourself

Because you are only working on decluttering a room ten minutes a day, I urge you to go easy on yourself. And, to be honest, you are not likely to see real, noticeable progress for a few days. This will make it quite easy to look at your spot and think you got nothing done.

If you give yourself grace and remind yourself that slow is smooth but smooth is fast, you will get through your decluttering much easier.

Declutter a room

Pick Your Battles

When you start your first decluttering session, choose one small area within your larger area to work on. For instance, if you are decluttering a bookshelf, choose to work on one shelf instead of doing the entire thing in ten minutes. If you are skipping around, it will be far harder to see results. When this happens, it sometimes makes you get discouraged and quit. I am so guilty of this.

Categorize What You Find

Like with regular decluttering, everything you pull out of a cluttered room should be categorized into one of four categories; keep, toss, donate, sell. As you remove these items, decide where they fit, and then do something with them. If you choose to donate or sell, do not make the mistake of allowing them to sit around your home. Put donations straight into your car so they are easier to drop off and list sellable items immediately, so they do not get forgotten or overlooked.

Be Mindful What You Keep

It can be easy to want to keep everything you pull out of the closet; however, that is how your space became cluttered in the first place. Instead, question yourself before you allow yourself to keep something, ask yourself if you truly need it. If you have a use for it (or if it’s super sentimental), keep it.

Give Everything a Home

After you’ve chosen to keep an item, please give it a new home immediately. Do not simply throw it back into a box and leave it be. By moving that item, you train your brain to think about the new spot first. Trust me, it works!

Declutter As You Go

Finally, the only way to truly declutter a room is to declutter things as you go. This does not mean you need to stop and declutter all your kitchen cabinets when you notice one thing out of place. But, when you notice something in the wrong cabinet, you take fifteen seconds to put it back in its home. Sounds easy, right? As this becomes a habit, you will find that your home stays decluttered on its own, and it makes deep cleaning a whole lot easier.

How To Get Glowing Skin Naturally

How To Get Glowing Skin Naturally

Many factors play a key role in whether you have healthy skin or not. Lack of sleep, poor nutrition, and other factors can interfere with your ability to get glowing skin naturally.

Today I’m going to share some tips to help you get glowing skin naturally so you can start taking care of your skin without using a million different products!

How To Get Glowing Skin Naturally

Cleanse Your Skin Regularly

You’ll want to use a skin cleanser to wash away dirt and debris from your busy day. Oil and dirt collect in your pores as you go about your daily activities like running errands, exercising, and just living your everyday life. You can use a face cleansing brush and some natural soap that’s safe for your skin each night before you go to sleep for a thorough cleanse. But, I absolutely love the Aveeno Positively Radiant Skin Brightening Exfoliating Face Scrub. I use it every day and swear by it!

Moisturize With Coconut Oil

If you’re not allergic to coconut, then consider using coconut oil as a natural moisturizer for your skin. This amazing natural oil can remove makeup, soothe your skin, and promote healthier-looking skin for a natural glow. Allow the coconut oil to sit on your skin for a few minutes before washing it away with warm water.

Try Aloe Vera

Aloe vera has healing properties that promote new cell growth to get glowing skin naturally.  The cool thing about this option is that you can grow aloe vera in a container at home if you’re up for a new hobby.

Test a small amount of aloe vera on your skin before use, as some people are allergic to it. Once you’re ready, just apply aloe vera to your skin after each daily washing for a healthy, natural glow. If you’re interested in a facial spray instead, this one is my favorite.

Increase Water Consumption

A hydrated body returns glowing skin naturally. Aim to drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water every day. I absolutely love this water bottle to keep track of my daily water intake instead of tracking it on an app! I have too many as it is.

But if calculating your intake is your thing, you can use a daily water intake calculator to determine how much water to drink on a daily basis. This calculator helps you determine the most appropriate level based on your body weight for maximum health and glowing skin!

Eat Fruits and Vegetables

glowing skin

Nutrition plays a key role in how healthy your skin is. The more fruits and vegetables you consume, the more vitamins and antioxidants you’re getting into your system. The healthier the diet, the healthier your skin, which means you’ll be glowing in no time when you opt to increase your fruit and vegetable consumption each day.

Minimize Skin Exposure to Hot Water

A nice, steamy shower will help cleanse your pores, but staying under hot water for too long will damage the natural oil in your skin. Be sure to minimize your skin’s exposure to hot water by only allowing the steamy hot shower water to run on your face for a few minutes. You will want to practice this so that your skin maintains its natural oils for the ultimate glow.

Paying attention to your daily habits for maximum skin health is the best way to start obtaining that healthy glow every day. No matter how young or old you are, each day is a new chance to use natural options for healthy, glowing skin!

These are just some of the best ways to get that natural glow. Please share your tips and tricks in the comments section below. I want to hear what has worked for you, too!

Whether you work from home or in the office, summer is definitely the season to find more time to do what you love. You can take a vacation from work to enjoy quality time with your friends and family or find new activities to do and make the most of your weekends.

Today, I’m going to share some tips to help you create a summer bucket list! This list will inspire you to pause and enjoy more of what life has to offer you.

5 tips to create a summer bucket list

How To Create A Summer Bucket List

Create a Healthy Balance

Your list will include things that can be enjoyed together with friends or family as well as things you can enjoy alone. You’ll want to build in self-care time to recharge and reconnect with yourself, too! These new self-care practices may include activities you’ve always wanted to do but haven’t yet. Be sure to not overdo it though. If you’re feeling socially drained, listen to your body and do what is needed to feel better.

Include Zero Business Tasks

Remember that bucket lists are all about fun and adventures! This means there’s zero room for business tasks. Make sure you remove any business events, activities, or commitments and focus on the things you’ve always wanted to do without letting work get in the way. You can even try a social media detox!

Consider New Ideas

You may make a bucket list every year with similar activities on it. Why not choose some fresh new ideas this year? Try putting a few new ideas on the list that didn’t make the cut last summer but are something that your soul truly is pulled towards trying!

Ask Social Media Friends

Ask your social media friends. Put a feeler out on social media to see what other people are putting on their summer bucket list. Take some of the best ideas shared with you and put them on your summer bucket list, too!

Consider Family Wishes

Don’t forget to consider what your family wants to do when you’re making your summer bucket list. This list should include things that everyone will enjoy, not just things the adults want to do. While you do need to maintain a healthy balance of group and individual activities asking your family what they want to include on the summer bucket list will be helpful. But, if you’re just planning things for yourself, go do whatever you want!

How do you make a perfect bucket list?

Now that I featured some tips to create your ultimate summer bucket list you may be wondering how to make a list that is tailored to you. Well, you’ll need to start with some of the easy stuff. Find the things you love to do and go from there. The perfect summer bucket list may include some childhood wishes, adult dreams, and things that are outside of your comfort zone.

Get creative as you want and enjoy your summer the right way!

My Makeup Routine & Favorite Skincare Products

Over the course of the past year and a half, I found a passion for makeup and skincare products. Today, I want to share my daily makeup routine and favorite skincare products with you.

Okay, I’ll be honest… What fueled my passion was joining Ipsy and BoxyCharm at the end of last year. Once I started to receive a TON of products each month, I started accumulating products and had really no reason to use them because nowhere to go because of the pandemic.

I will say that joining both beauty subscription boxes helped me find products to incorporating into my everyday makeup routine without having to spend a lot of money on them. Of course, there were some products that I couldn’t use because they irritated my skin, but overall, I was impressed with the selection I received.

My Daily Makeup Routine:

Now, in terms of my daily makeup routine, it’s super simple. I’m not one to spend hours in front of the mirror every day doing my makeup. I’m all about getting the look I want in a short amount of time. Also, it’s because I’m not a morning person and I don’t have time to put on a whole face before work. Real talk. But these are my 8 favorite makeup products that I truly cannot live without.

  1. Benefit Cosmetics Goof Proof Waterproof Easy Shape & Fill Eyebrow Pencil – For those days where I need a little help and shading, this pencil is absolutely worth it.

  2. Benefit Cosmetics Watt’s Up! Champagne Cream Highlighter – This has been a staple in my makeup bag for years. It’s a great highlighter and it’s super compact.

  3. MAC Lipstick Shine – Fabby – This mauve w/ gold pearl (frost) lipstick is amazing. It goes really well on top of my NARS lipstick pencil if I want a little extra sparkle.

  4. Urban Decay Naked3 Palette – I’ve wanted one of these palettes for years. Thankfully I grabbed a few on sale a few months back and fell in love with this particular palette.

  5. NARS Climax Mascara Explicit Black – This mascara WORKS. I love the length and volume it gives my lashes. My lashes are okay on their own but this gives it the boost they need! If you want more mascara recommendations, click here.

  6. NARS Satin Lipstick Pencil Rikugien – No wonder this is a cult favorite. It’s a gorgeous color and goes great with any outfit. 10/10 absolutely recommend to anyone and everyone. Go pick one up!

  7. bareMinerals Broad Spectrum Concealer SPF 20 – My tried and true powder concealer. I haven’t jumped into the liquid concealer world yet, so this is my go-to.

  8. bareMinerals Foundation – SPF 15 – This foundation has also been a staple in my makeup bag for years. I can’t even remember when I started using it, but it has worked great. I have one lighter and one darker shade. The darker shade works great in the summer.
makeup routine and skincare products

For years, I never really had a skincare routine. I know, I know… Bad Nikki! I really just washed my face in the shower and called it a day. I know how bad that is now and learned why my skin was always super dry. I’ve also struggled with acne my entire life and it continued even into my mid-thirties. I always see those memes of “If you had this item as a child it’s time for a serum” and it’s absolutely true!

There was a light at the end of the tunnel for me. I found skincare products that I absolutely love and honestly couldn’t live without. These 6 skincare products have truly changed my skin for the better. Some of the items are super cheap and others are expensive, but they’re all worth it!

My Favorite Skincare Products:

  1. The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% – My sister told me that this stuff helps clear up blemishes and man, was she right! I use this serum at night after I use a toner and before I moisturize.

  2. The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 – Hyaluronic acid is literally everywhere and in everything lately. But this serum is my morning go-to. I use it to hydrate my face before putting on some type of moisturizer. It’s great!

  3. Farmacy Deep Sweep 2% BHA Pore Cleaning Toner with Moringa + Papaya – I got this in one of my subscription boxes and I love it! It gently exfoliates while cleaning your pores. It’s a must-try. Farmacy has been one of my new favorite brands.

  4. Murad City Skin Overnight Detox Moisturizer – This is the holy grail of moisturizers for me. I also got it in one of the subscription boxes and I am so happy I did! I put it on before I go to bed and my face is still moisturized in the morning. It’s insane. I’ve never had a product like this actually work on my face. Love it!

  5. Veriphy Skincare 20/20 Eye Cream  – Yet another subscription box find! This eye cream is added into my morning and night skincare routine and it helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

  6. Mediheal Tea Tree Essential Blemish Control Mask  – I found about these masks because of the Mediheal x BTS partnership. This tea tree mask is my go-to face mask and I use it maybe 2-3 times a month when I’m absolutely in need of it. I love their brightening and hydrating mask too!

What did you think of my daily makeup routine, makeup recommendations, and skincare products? Tell me what your favorites are in the comments.
