5 Tricks To Set Fitness Goals That Get Results

by | Feb 16, 2018 | Wellness | 0 comments

Whether you’re just starting out on your fitness journey or you’re a committed exercise junkie, setting fitness goals can be a challenge for anyone.

It’s hard to project where you’re going to be after months of hard work, especially when your goals involve tackling new challenges or reaching new heights. And setting goals that aren’t realistic is a surefire way to set yourself up for failure.

If you want to make sure you set some meaningful fitness goals for yourself, it’s time to get serious and get committed to your overall health.

Here are some tricks to setting fitness goals that get results:

Start small.

It can be easy to set big, shiny, ambitious goals to chase, but it can be really disappointing when we find them out of reach after months of pursuit. If you’re trying to set fitness goals that get results, start small. If you want to try something that will get you off the couch, try the Couch to 5K program.

Break those big goals into baby steps.

Trying to lose weight? Instead of setting a goal to lose fifty pounds, set a goal that sounds much more manageable, like aiming to lose one to two pounds each week through exercise and healthy eating. But don’t weigh yourself every day. Try for once a week using a scale that will automatically sync to your smart phone. You’ll feel far more encouraged and be more likely to continue on your fitness journey.

Set time-based goals.

If you’re just beginning your journey toward fitness, you might struggle to figure out what goals are actually attainable and which ones are a little too far out of reach for now. Instead of setting goals that’ll have you reaching for the stars, like running a marathon or hitting the gym every single day, set a goal for yourself to spend a certain amount of time focused on fitness.

Setting a time-based fitness goal can be a great way to set yourself up for success. By committing to spend a set amount of time working out each week, you’ll have the flexibility to find a way to move that works for you, and you’ll start to build a habit around spending time at the gym in a healthy way.

Find a fitness tracker that works for you.

Tracking your progress toward your fitness goals can be incredibly gratifying, and if you’re the type who’s easily tempted to get off-course, it can really help you keep your focus.

See if there’s a fitness app for your iPhone or Android that will allow you to document your journey or invest in a Fitbit or other device to make tracking your workouts a breeze. If you prefer to track your progress with paper and pencil, create a log to check off your workouts or take notes around your calorie intake.

Get support for your goals.

You definitely don’t have to scream your fitness goals from the rooftops and tell the world, but setting fitness goals and sharing them with a friend or a support group focused on similar targets can really go a long way in boosting your motivation and helping you progress.

Once you have a decent grasp on the types of goals you’re trying to set, you can seek out a community to encourage your progress. Consider groups like Weight Watchers or Curves for weight-loss initiatives or CrossFit clubs to help push you toward your fitness goals.

By setting small, time-based goals, tracking your progress, and gaining support, you’ll be well on your way to crushing your fitness goals. What tricks do you use to help you toward your fitness goals? Let me know in the comments!
